Mission
As an R&D Research Expert, you will join the Clinical Research & Application group within the Innovation & Development department of our Proton Therapy business unit at our Belgian headquarters.
You will work in close collaboration with our customers and industrial partner on the design of the next generations of our Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) device, the volumetric imaging system that is embedded within the treatment rooms of our proton therapy facilities.
You will advance our image quality and help secure the highest standard of image guidance and treatment adaptation for cancer patients.

Challenges we trust you with
- You will connect with the clinical solution manager to translate clinical user needs into image quality improvement targets.
- Benefiting from guidance from our industrial partner, you will continuously look for, implement, and optimize new algorithms for image processing and reconstruction.
- You will contribute to design studies for new versions of the hardware.
- You will develop strategies and perform analyses for their evaluation.
- You will advise the product manager on their value for our product strategy and assist the program manager for their inclusion in our product roadmap.
- You will collaborate with the development teams on their integration.
- You will patent novel concepts.
- You will support the definition and update of system requirements and test procedures, as well as the configuration of new deployments of the system.
What we value
- You have strong analytical skills with an eye for details and enjoy working at the resolution of technical challenges.
- You have a Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science, plus a PhD or other equivalent research experience.
- You built expertise in the field of medical image acquisition and processing, in an academic or industrial environment.
- You are knowledgeable of image reconstruction algorithms. Prior practical experience with x-ray hardware is an asset.
- You developed solid programming skills in C/C++. Preferably in CUDA too.
- You are a team player, always thoughtful to ensure synchronization of your efforts with those of colleagues.
- You are a customer-oriented person with excellent interpersonal communication skills including presentation of ideas.
- You are able to report technical progress with different levels of abstraction to our different internal and external stakeholders.
- You are able to read, write and speak English.
- You are willing to travel up to 10% of your time.
